It's a fair question, to be sure, but here's the deal. Moose is in seventh grade. It's actually a great sign of his character that he loves his parents enough to obey them even when he doesn't want to.

I always do what I'm supposed to do. But just because Moose plays by the rules, doesn't mean he doesn't wonder. When he's battling the injustice of the world a. He wonders if maybe, in always following the rules, he's missing out on some of life. It's one thing to marvel at Moose's self control and acknowledge that he's aware it might come at a price—but let's look at that submissive side of his from another angle. It's time to address why Moose might always keeps so quiet.

Which brings us to his mom. Flanagan is an overbearing person for more info on this lady, check out her page in this section. Moose doesn't have a great relationship with her because of this. She tends to overlook his good qualities, and act really insensitively. For example, when he overhears her telling somebody that "he's smarter than he looks" He asks himself: "what is it with me that even my own mother thinks I look stupid? Plus, there are a ton of murderers, rapists, hit men, con men, stickup men, embezzlers, connivers, burglars, kidnappers and maybe even an innocent man or two, though I doubt it.

We can also see that Moose really just goes along with everything in order to keep his mom from being upset. One of Moose's weaknesses is his jealousy over his sister Natalie. While she obviously needs attention, Moose has a hard time with his parents giving so much to her, while he is often looked over. Moose loves to play baseball, even though there aren't many people on the island who are very good. He is excited when he meets Scout at school and finds that they plan a game once a week. After Scout tries to work around his schedule, he gets frustrated with Moose.

Moose is a part of the next Piper scheme: stalking Mrs. Capone on the ferry when she comes to visit her famous son at Alcatraz, Al.

Moose becomes obsessed with finding a convict baseball before Piper does, and he takes Natalie with him to search for one every day. After a few days of searching, Moose finds out that Natalie has been making friends with Convict Moose's wanderings come to an end and he stays in the house with Natalie, who fusses and fights about wanting to see again. Moose has been growing more opinionated about what helps Natalie and what doesn't, and on Natalie's birthday, he tells his mom that they have to face facts and stop lying about her age.

This starts a huge fight. In the end, his mom agrees with him and they make up.
