In the consensus report from the IABS meeting, researchers called for an international network of active surveillance systems, which would allow public-health agencies to share data more easily, and hopefully determine the causes of adverse reactions quickly and definitively.

The combination of active surveillance and targeted clinical trials is not just important for assuring the safety of current COVID vaccines, says Jones.
